Well hello there.

I'm Mike Freeman and I want to work at Shopify.  I hope you will consider me for the Business Analyst position, or anywhere else that you think I would be an asset.

I thought that you would appreciate a Shopify site rather than a plain old resume.  We use Shopify at Dempsey Press, (more about that later), so I knew how easy the Liquid templates would be to edit.

I think my analytical powers and diverse work experience make me a perfect fit for this position.

Most recently, I helped launch my fiancee's company, Dempsey Press. We are Ottawa's first commercial letterpress print shop and are building our own line of premium greeting cards and stationery. I currently handle the business, marketing and web portion of the business while my fiancee, Vanessa Dempsey, is the Creative Director and Press Operator. Learning the process of letterpress printing, and everything our beautiful Heidelberg windmill press can do, has been fascinating.

We are growing our wholesale and custom letterpress business while selling our products on Etsy, at indie craft fairs and through our Shopify site. Literally hours before we launched our website, we switched to Shopify from a buggy Wordpress plugin. I am so glad we did. I was easily able to edit the Woodland theme to fit our needs and was up and running in no time.

Before I knew anything about quoin tightening or sucker bar tilt levels, I was the Digital Strategic Planner for an integrated marketing agency, Armstrong Partnership. I began at the company by stuffing envelopes for contest winners on a freelance, temp basis. After observing the contest process, I knew that there would be significant labour and cost savings if all the legal and contest knowledge was centralized in one place.  I pitched the idea of a new department to the company and was hired to run it.

Within two years, I had grown the department to become an integral part of the agency with over $1 million in revenues. I oversaw the legal compliance of complex marketing programs in both Canada and the U.S. and ensured efficient fulfillment of all prizing. Over time, a significant part of my role also included brainstorming and new program development.

As online marketing became a larger part of the media mix, I was promoted to Digital Strategic Planner. In this new position, I worked directly with the Digital Creative Director to re-organize the Digital Department. Working with client teams, I developed online marketing plans for brands such as MasterCard, Heineken, KitchenAid, Hill's Pet Food, Orville Redenbacher and Heartgard. My role in new business development also increased and I was instrumental in convincing existing clients to move their online marketing budgets to Armstrong.

Besides marketing and general internet geekery, my passion is travel. In 2008, my girlfriend and I obtained French work permits and moved to Paris for a year. I had the good fortune to work for a boutique agency that taught business and marketing English to corporate clients. The most interesting part of this job was coaching C-level executives and learning the details of their business, industry and regulatory environment.

I've had a few other interesting jobs and even ran a full-service marketing agency, but you can read about those in my resume. More importantly, I'm hoping you will book a meeting with me so that we can get to know each other.

Thank you,
